The alloys on the surface include more iron which makes this protective coating harder than the base steel. In some cases it is 200% harder than the steel being coated. This hardness provides greater durability for the metal coating.

A. Hot-Dip Galvanizing: For steel exposed to the elements, weather or corrosive environments and other steel indicated to be galvanized, provide coating for iron and steel fabrications applied by the hot-dip process.
- Basis-of-Design: Duragalv by Duncan Galvanizing.
- Comply with ASTM A 123 for fabricated products and ASTM A 153 for hardware.
- Provide thickness of galvanizing specified in referenced standards.
- Galvanizing bath shall contain special high grade zinc and other earthly materials.
- Fill vent holes after galvanizing, if applicable, and grind smooth.
