Portland Jetport Parking Garage and Car Rental Facility
The existing parking garage and terminal building on the airport site were largely concrete in appearance. However, the airport had recently completed construction on a new terminal canopy with exposed structural steel to mimic the appearance of ship’s masts in the port city.
The new garage design was tasked to tie all of the existing elements together and provide added visual appeal rather than looking monolithic. The precast concrete and steel parking structure, a hybrid design combining steel and concrete, has a large amount of steel visible including columns, beams, canopies, trusses, and rafters.
The visible exterior steel in the structure was specified as Colorgalv with blue paint, but the interior steel structure of the garage features exposed galvanizing. By utilizing the combination of exposed galvanized steel, and Colorgalv, the parking garage and rental facility received the best of both worlds – superior corrosion protection in the harsh New England climate, and a mix of colorful finishes to interest visitors for years to come.
